Toni Dick obtained an LLB and LLM from the Queensland University of Technology. She commenced work as a solicitor with Hunt and Hunt (then Cooper, Grace and Ward) in 1987 and began specialising in family law. In 1992 she moved to McInnes Wilson and Jensen and established a family law unit there. After starting a family with her husband Simeon, she worked as an academic, at QUT. She was a member of the Queensland Domestic Violence Council (in its third term) from 1994 to 1997 and worked closely with the clients, staff and management committee of the Immigrant Women’s Support Service. She was a volunteer solicitor at the Women’s Legal Service from 1989 to 1996 and a member of its management committee from 1990 to 2000, holding the position of President from 1995 until just before she sadly passed away on 28 October 2000.

Toni was a vibrant woman who brought energy and cheerfulness to those with whom she worked. She was intellectually rigorous and wrote a number of important papers which melded her depth of knowledge of family law as an academic and a practitioner with her understanding of the social issues confronting women.
