Julie Dick was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland on the 18th of December 1975. Since her admission, Julie has appeared as defence Counsel in over 40 murder trials, a number of which were high profile, complex matters, and numerous trials involving serious charges such as rape, robbery, arson, drug trafficking, fraud, corruption and perjury.

Julie received a Commission to Prosecute on behalf of the State Crown and has done so with some frequency in both the Supreme and District Courts. For three years, Julie served on the Committee of the Bar Association, and has represented the Bar Association at meetings with government and judicial officers in relation to matters of concern to the Association.

For a number of years, Julie was a member of the Litigation Reform Commission, Criminal Law Subdivision, and was a member until the Commission was disbanded. She was also a member of the Advisory Working Group for the Criminal Code Review which has now passed into legislation.

For a period of three years, Julie was the Government appointment to the Podiatrists Board of Queensland where she was expected to give day to day legal advice to the Board.

Julie has been involved in Continuing Legal Education and has taken part in moot programs for the University of Queensland, the Queensland University of Technology, and in advocacy programs run by Bond University, QUT and the Bar Practice Centre. She has also been involved in Continuing Legal Education courses conducted by the Queensland Law Society and presented papers at various conferences and symposiums.

On the 4th of November, 1997, Julie was appointed as Senior Counsel.

In March 1998, she was the first Parliamentary Criminal Justice Commissioner appointed for the State of Queensland.
