The Yungaburra Kid

Edward (Ned) Stratten Williams was born in Yungaburra on the Atherton Tablelands on 29 December 1921, to Zilla and Edward Stratten Williams. Both parents died within nine months of one another, when Ned was eight. After their deaths, he and his three siblings were raised in Yungaburra by his uncle, Fred Williams, and his wife, Erin.
Arriving in North Queensland from England in the late 1880s, the Williams family became prominent members of the Tableland community. They contributed to the growing prosperity of the region through their encouragement and development of primary industries and their community involvement.
