|
On 28 January 1943, Edward volunteered for the Royal Australian Air Force. After completing his initial training in Australia, the then Pilot Officer Williams departed for England, where he completed further training and was eventually assigned to the RAF 186 Bomber Squadron as the pilot of a Lancanster Bomber crew.
