Honours and Awards


 

A lifetime of service and commitment to the community and the law was recognised by Edward Stratten Williams’ appointment as a Knight of the British Empire in 1981.

In recognition of his role in the 1982 Commonwealth Games, Sir Edward was appointed Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George for service to sport.

Sir Edward was also named Australian and Queenslander of the Year in 1984, as a consequence of his role in the Commonwealth Games.

In 1991, Sir Edward was given the title of Honorary Earl of Shaftsbury. This award recognised his contribution to the Shaftesbury Citizenship Centre/Campus, an organisation which aims to enhance the quality of life of the people of Queensland and in particular those who are disadvantaged.
