A Lifetime of Community Involvement - Community Service

Community Service

From 1971 to 1994, Sir Edward was President of The Playground and Recreation Association of Queensland. For over 90 years, the Association has aimed to ‘promote the physical, mental and social well-being and advancement of children and adults in the State of Queensland by the provision of adequate facilities including trained leaders for play and recreation’.

As President, Sir Edward was extraordinarily effective in extracting donations great and small for the Association. In March 1994, his contribution was awarded with a life membership.

Sir Edward was also an active member of the Queensland Cancer Fund’s Anti-Cancer Council from 1983 to 1995, serving as Trustee of the Fund for 8 years.

He was a founding member and trustee of the Queensland Overseas Foundation from 1976 to 1996. The Foundation is a voluntary, non-profit organisation. It provides young people with the opportunity to broaden their vocational horizons and improve their career prospects by working overseas.
