The Supreme Court of Queensland Library is proud to present an exhibition to coincide with the VIII World Shakespeare Congress, entitled Shakespeare and the Law: Obligation, Vengeance and the Abuse of Power.
The exhibition explores legal themes in three of Shakespeare’s plays: King Lear, The Merchant of Venice, and Measure for Measure.
These plays address such issues as corruption of power, matters of inheritance and family responsibility, the intrusion of the state into the lives of ordinary people and the question of equality before the law.
