Biographical Notes
At the time of his appointment to the Supreme Court on 25 July 1989, Justice Byrne was a member of the Senior Bar, whose practice had an emphasis on commercial matters. He also served in the Army Reserve, in the Infantry Corps, from 1966 to 1985. He was Second-in-Command of Queensland University Regiment in 1982. As a Lieutenant-Colonel, he commanded the Officer Cadet Training Unit at Wacol from 1982 to 1985. He was awarded the Reserve Force Decoration in 1985.
