Judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland

Justice David Thomas is a graduate of The University of Queensland—Bachelor of Commerce (1976) and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (1978). After completing articles of clerkship with the Brisbane firm Morris Fletcher & Cross, His Honour was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland on 30 January 1979.

Justice Thomas was a partner at Minter Ellison from 1981 until His Honour’s appointment to the Supreme Court. His Honour is the Deputy Chair of the Queensland Ballet (2012–), Chairman (2009–) of the Queensland Maritime Museum and President of the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (2011–). Justice Thomas is also a Director of The Society of The Sacred Advent Schools Pty Ltd, which is the trustee of St Margaret's and St Aidan's Anglican Girls Schools (2006–).

His Honour was an Adjunct Professor of Murdoch University (2008–2011) and currently holds the position of Deputy Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane.

On 16 September 2013, Justice Thomas was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland. His Honour was the fourth solicitor to be appointed as a justice to the Supreme Court. Justice Thomas currently serves as the President of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (2013–16).
