Judge Harrison is a graduate of The University of Queensland—Bachelor of Law (1975).

After practicing as a solicitor for eleven years in Aboriginal Legal Aid, private practice and Legal Aid Queensland, His Honour was admitted to the Bar in 1986.

Judge Harrison practiced at the Bar in Rockhampton from 1986 to 1991, and in Mackay from 1991 until His Honour's judicial appointment. Appearing extensively throughout North Queensland, Judge Harrison spent five years on the Rockhampton Regional Parole Board and seven years as chairman of the five local boards (later Cane Production Boards) in the Mackay sugar district. His Honour served on various sporting school and charitable bodies, including the Mackay Cricket Association, of which he was Vice-President from 2000 until 2010.

His Honour was a member of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Judges’ Committee between 2011 and 2014.

Judge Harrison was appointed a judge of the District Court of Queensland on 19 February 2010 and holds commissions in the Planning and Environment Court and Childrens Court of Queensland.
